How to use it

  1. Enter each subject as Higher or Ordinary and the grade from 1 to 8.
  2. Tick Higher Level Maths once. H6 or better adds 25 points before the best six are chosen.
  3. Add LCVP Link Modules if you have a Distinction, Merit or Pass.
  4. Read the best six. A seventh subject is shown as not counted.

The 2017 to 2026 grid

Higher Level is H1 100, H2 88, H3 77, H4 66, H5 56, H6 46, H7 37 and H8 0. Ordinary Level is O1 56, O2 46, O3 37, O4 28, O5 20, O6 12, O7 0 and O8 0. Six H1s including Higher Maths are 625. An H6 in Higher Maths is 46 plus 25, which is 71. H7 and H8 do not get the bonus.

CAO counts the best six recognised subjects from one sitting. The bonus is included only when Mathematics is still inside those six after the 25 points are added. LCVP Link Modules score Distinction 66, Merit 46 and Pass 28, in place of a sixth subject. Not every college counts LCVP towards minimum entry requirements.

What this page leaves out

Foundation Level Mathematics is F1 20 and F2 12 at certain colleges only, so it is not on the grid here. The same is true of some discontinued subjects. Medicine applicants need the college’s own assessment rules. Points do not replace minimum entry requirements.

Questions

Can I add points from two sittings?

No. CAO counts one sitting. Enter the year you want scored.

Does every college accept LCVP as a passing subject?

Every HEI can award the points in place of a sixth subject. Not every HEI counts LCVP towards the entry-requirement subjects. Check the college.
